Inspiring the Next Generation of Engineers at Soshanguve Engineering High School Career Exhibition Day

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) was proud to participate in the recent Career Exhibition Day hosted at Soshanguve High School, where learners had the opportunity to engage with engineering professionals, explore exciting career pathways, and gain valuable insight into the engineering profession.

As part of NSBE’s ongoing commitment to community outreach and youth development, the exhibition provided an important platform to inspire learners to consider careers in engineering, science, technology, and innovation. Through direct interaction with practicing engineers and industry representatives, students were able to ask questions, learn about different engineering disciplines, and better understand the educational pathways that can lead to successful careers.

Career exhibitions play a vital role in helping young people make informed decisions about their futures. Many learners, particularly those from historically disadvantaged communities, have limited exposure to engineering professionals or the diverse opportunities available within the sector. Events such as these bridge that gap by connecting learners with role models who have successfully navigated similar journeys.

Throughout the day, NSBE representatives shared information about engineering as a profession, the importance of mathematics and science subjects, opportunities for bursaries and higher education, and the critical role engineers play in solving South Africa’s infrastructure, energy, water, transport, and technological challenges. These outreach initiatives form part of NSBE’s broader mission to increase awareness of engineering careers and support the development of future Black engineers across the country.

NSBE extends its sincere appreciation to the school leadership, educators, organisers, exhibitors, and all stakeholders who contributed to making the Career Exhibition Day a success. Most importantly, we commend the enthusiastic learners whose curiosity, ambition, and engagement throughout the event reaffirm the bright future of engineering in South Africa.

We remain committed to creating opportunities that expose young people to engineering careers, encourage academic excellence, and empower future generations to become innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders who will contribute meaningfully to South Africa’s economic growth and development.
