Celebrating NSBE’s First Event in the Northern Cape Province!

A huge congratulations to Otlotleng for successfully hosting this landmark event at Green Side High School, one of TETA’s adopted schools. This was NSBE’s first-ever event in the Northern Cape, and it marked the beginning of a new chapter in promoting STEM education in the region.

About Green Side High School

Located in Kimberley, Green Side High School is home to 584 students across various grades. Despite a strong foundation in Maths and Natural Science in Grades 8 and 9, the number of learners pursuing Maths and Physics in Grades 10–12 is alarmingly low:

  • Grade 10: 23 Maths learners, 13 Physics learners
  • Grade 11: 6 Maths learners, 6 Physics learners
  • Grade 12: 5 Maths learners, 0 Physics learners

Out of the 302 Grade 10–12 learners, only 53 are pursuing Maths and Physics, highlighting a critical gap in STEM education.

Event Highlights

On 26 November 2024, NSBE Northern Cape visited Green Side High School with a clear mission:

  • Objective: To encourage Grade 9 learners to choose Maths and Physics as subjects in Grade 10 (2025).
  • Goal: Increase the number of Maths and Physics learners from the current 5 learners in 2024 to 50 learners in 2025.

The event included motivational presentations, STEM advocacy, and engagement activities designed to inspire young minds to pursue technical and scientific careers.
