NSBE Redefining Engineering Leadership

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) in partnership with Mangosuthu University of Technology will launch an Engineering Student Chapter (ESC) on Tuesday, 12 April 2016 at Mangosuthu University of Technology in Umlazi at 17:00. The ESC will be launched under the theme, Redefining Engineering Leadership which aims to recognise Black Engineering Excellence since 1994.

A resilient and fast growing economy is at the heart of our radical economic transformation agenda and our National Development Plan (NDP). When the economy grows fast it delivers jobs. NSBE established in 1995, through its engineers is the vertebrae of South Africa’s economic growth and is well positioned to work with government, its State Owned Entities to achieve the 2030 NDP goals.

Redefining Engineering Leadership will help NSBE navigate its current programs and ensure that they are geared towards drawing on the energies of the engineering professionals, into an inclusive economy through building capabilities, enhancing the capacity of the state, and promoting strong leadership.

Embedded within NSBE programs is grooming engineers into leadership roles and more engineers have gone through training and development programs within the State Owned Entities and private sector. It is NSBE’s goal to start developing engineers at a student level through student chapters  so that South Africa can have sufficient engineers to deliver NDP programs by 2030.

A notable feature of the NDP is to develop black industrialists, it is the position of the NSBE that industrialisation begins by having sufficient engineers. It is important to note that majority of NSBE members hold critical engineering positions within State Owned Entities and have delivered successful projects and programs. NSBE is proud to echo President Zuma in his state of the nation address to recognise engineering excellence in SANRAL, TRANS CALEDON TUNNEL AUTHORITY, TRANSNET AND ESKOM to mention but a few and NSBE is at the heart of this excellence.

It is against this background that Black Engineering Excellence be celebrated through recognising those that have contributed to the success of the profession over the years. NSBE will recognise individuals and firms that continue to play a critical role in advancing engineering career at the launch of ESC.
